Chapter Leadership
Dr. Christina Guillén serves as the Co-Chair of the New York City Chapter of the National Hispanic Medical Association. Dr. Guillén is an Assistant Professor at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University. She serves as the Program Director for the Pediatric Residency Program and Director of the Community Advocacy Division. She received her medical degree from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine and completed her Pediatric residency training and an additional Chief Resident year at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University. After completing her residency training, she joined the faculty in the Department of Pediatrics. Dr. Guillén has dedicated her career to graduate medical education, advocacy and addressing health disparities. Early in her career, she served as the Child Abuse Specialist for the University Hospital at Downstate. As the Director of Community Advocacy, she oversees community advocacy and outreach projects within the department of Pediatrics and collaborates with various community-based organizations in New York City. Her work in graduate medical education includes curriculum development. She created and implemented a Child Advocacy Elective and a Health Disparities Curriculum for the pediatric residency program. In 2020, Dr. Guillén was appointed to the GME Associate Designated Institutional Official of Diversity and Inclusion and serves as the faculty mentor for the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion House staff Council. She works closely with the Office of Diversity, Education and Research for the College of Medicine and serves as the Co-Chair of the Health Equity and Social Justice Workgroup. Dr. Guillén works closely with the LMSA Chapter at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University. She enjoys mentoring and supporting the education and careers of minority medical students and residents.
