Ricardo Gomez, MD

Dr. Ricardo Gomez is a distinguished Professor of Clinical Pediatrics in the Department of Pediatrics at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, where he specializes in Pediatric Endocrinology. He also serves as the Division Head of Endocrinology for the LSU Department of Pediatrics and is the Service Line Chief of Endocrinology at Children’s Hospital New Orleans.

Dr. Gomez began his medical education at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana School of Medicine in Bogota, Colombia, graduating in 1990. He completed his pediatrics training at the Pediatric University Hospital "Lorencita Villegas de Santos" at the University of El Rosario, also in Bogota, where he served as Chief Resident from 1994 to 1995. Pursuing further specialization, he moved to the United States and completed a Pediatrics Residency at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center from 2000 to 2002, followed by a Fellowship in Pediatric Endocrinology at the same institution, which he completed in 2009.

Since 2007, Dr. Gomez has been a Staff Attending in Pediatric Endocrinology at Children's Hospital of New Orleans, dedicating 18-21 weeks per year to patient care. He has been instrumental in training the next generation of specialists, having trained 22 fellows, and is currently serving as the Program Director for the Pediatric Endocrinology Fellowship since 2012.

In addition to his clinical and educational roles, Dr. Gomez is a prolific contributor to medical literature with over 30 peer-reviewed publications and more than 20 invited presentations. His expertise is recognized internationally, evidenced by his role as the Liaison for the Pediatric Endocrine Society (PES) to the Latin American Society of Pediatric Endocrinology (SLEP) on the International Relations Committee since 2014.

Dr. Gomez’s commitment to pediatric endocrinology and his contributions to both clinical practice and research have made him a respected leader in his field, impacting patient care and medical education on a global scale.
