A major goal of the NHMA is to educate the health policy-makers in the United States in order to improve the health of Hispanics and other underserved. Therefore, NHMA has established its Board of Directors Policy Committee to coordinate the input from the Association for its meetings with the White House, Executive Branch Agencies, and the Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives. NHMA convenes two Congressional Briefings on Hispanic Health Issues twice a year to educate Congress and Senate staff and leaders of national advocacy organizations to advance the health of our communities. NHMA convenes meetings with Congressmen and Senators for the leadership during the year and for the membership during the Annual Conference in March in Washington, DC. In addition, NHMA has provided input on Federal programs for State Legislators as NHMA has developed programs in California, New York, and Texas over the past decade. The health of Hispanics can only improve as more policy-makers are educated about the need to make the complex health care system more responsive to our physicians and their patients.
