GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS

A major goal of the NHMA is to educate the health policy-makers in the United States in order to improve the health of Hispanics and other underserved. Therefore, NHMA has established a national Advisory Committee with a policy subcommittee to coordinate the input from the Association for its meetings with the White House, Executive Branch Agencies, and the Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives.

NHMA convenes meetings to Congressmen and Senators for the leadership during the year and for the membership during the Annual Conference in March in Washington, DC.

In addition, NHMA has provided input on Federal programs for State Legislators as NHMA has developed programs in California, New York, and Georgia over the past 6 years. The health of Hispanics can only improve as more policy-makers are educated about the complex health care system of the United States.

In the future, the NHMA plans to develop State Legislative Days in state capitols with physician speakers from the states. A calendar will announce these events in this section in the future.
